3Lr T.. W. Lamont. a partner in the J. "Those v,'lh> have 1 studied "England's fiscal traditions." he said, "and noted the comparative ease with which she cleared off what seemed the intolerable burden resulting from the Napoleonic wars are eoulident that .within live years the financial position of the Government and people will, on the whole, be as strong as ever." 31r Lament's article, which is accepted as an answer to recent pessimistic criticism of Europe by Mr F. A, Yauderlip, describes the position of Europo as resembling that of a man recovering from fever. He says :■ — "1 am one of those sanguine people who believe that the patient is going to recover, and recover more quickly perhaps than any'of lis imagine." America will grant Europe credits, the article states, for tho purchase of raw materials, and Europe "will be able to start for life afresh." The shipping shortage. 3lr Lamont. asserts, is much less serious than most people think, and by next year "the world's tonnage will be normal or even a trifle above that."
