SUGAR SHORTAGE.

"It is just as well to let the public realise that we are faced with a .sugar shortage." remarked the Prime Minister to-day in reply to a ipiestion by 3lr I-lollaiicl as to what was the postion of supplies. Mr Afassey added that the Board of Trade bad asked the Colonial "Sugar Company to send a- representative from Australia to consult with them over the position. If a representative could not come the New Zealand Government would send an officer to Australia to give the company a correct idea of what was likely to happen iti New Zealand, especially during the fruit season.
Replying to ;i suggestion l>y Mt Young that wholesale orders should be rationed so as to secure a lair distribntion among tlw different districts. 31.r Mass.ey said lie believed there was no necessity to go so far as lo have a rationing scheme. Supplies would lie 'distributed fairly by the Hugar C'oirpany.
