CHUISTCHURCH. November o. A meeting of the Executive of the New Zealand Hockey Association was held to-night for the purpose of discussing a resolution passed by the Canterbury Association condemnatory of the refereeing of L. C. Kent, of Auckland, in the recent Challenge Shield match between Auckland and Canterbury.

A length v letter was read from Mr Kew. in which he stated that he had I!iveil his decisions impartially and in accordance with the rules. His interpretations were similar to those •liven bv him in representative ana club matches in Auckland during the last nine seasons. Mr Kent added that the v.liole trouble had been caused bv a lack of uniformity in interpretation of the rules adopted in Auckland and Canterbury, and suggested that in the- true interests of the game a Dominion Conference of referees was essential to lay down uniform interpretations and rulings. In' the long discussion which ensued a unanimous opinion was expressed that the Canterbury Association's resolutions suggesting to the Yew Zealand Association that MiKent was not competent- to control future Shield matches should be withdrawn.

The followiiiL' resolution was carvied -"That the Canterbury Hoekey Association having agreed Kent acting as referee in the shield match. Canterbury versus Auckland, is bound to aecejjt the decision, and in view of these circumstances and in the best interests of the sportthis centre directs that the Canterbury Assoeiaion withdraw the resolutions I. 2. -I. and 4 forwarded to the governing body. The Canterbury Association had forwarded five resolutions, the fifth one being a suggestion that the shield matches rules should be altered to provide i'or outside referees. In this connection a committee was set up in go into the question of the revision of the Challenge Shield and Vord"ii Cun rules generally.
