VALEDICTORY AT KAKANUI.

(From Our Own Correspondent. The local hall was the scene of a very animated gathering on Mondoy evening last, when a, large number of friends and wellwishers met. to bid farewell to Miss l<\ Wilson. Mistress at the School for the past six years. Mr W. S. Burnett. Chairman of the School Committee, presided, and a very pleasant time was spenl in games, cards, songs and,musical items. During a break in Ihe proceedings Mr Harnett, amidst prolonged applause, called on Miss "Wilson and' in a fitting speech presented her with a handsome gold watch, eulogising the excellent work' done by her as a teacher in the school. He also remarked on the splendid reports received from the Inspector in connection with Iter work, and how at all times she had endeavored to carry out • her duties to the utmost of her abilities and her keen interest in the welfare of the scholars. He hoped she would be long spared to weai' the present, and, although all regretted her departure, they heartily, congratulated her on her ' promotion and wished her success in her new .future sphere. The company added their tribute with ''She's a -lolly Good I'VlloW." Mr Steven. Headmaster suitably replied on behalf of Miss Wilson, thanking those present for the very enjoyable evening and tor the handsome present-. The company afterwards adjourned "to the supper room, where an enjoyable supper provided by the ladies was done ample justice to. adding greatly to the. pleasure of the evening. After supper dancing was indulged in till about. 2 a.m., when a very successful function was concluded with "Auld Lang Syne." MiVs Wilson also received a- handsome gold bangle from the scholars, presented to her at the school. - Miss Wilson relinquished her position on Friday last and proceeds to North Canterbury to take up a higher position with the Canterbury Education Board. She carries with her the bestwishes of a host of friends in this district.
