KUROW NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) 'On Monday evening a- meeting was held in the Public Library—to makearrangements for the suitable, celebration of peace. 'There was a good attendance. In the absence! of "Mr T. A. Mun.ro, who convened the meeting, Mr . Hayes was appointed chairman, and the. Rev. John Craig was appointed secretary.

In his opening remarks the chairman said that as .peace was in sight it was only right that- they should make arrangements to celebrate the occasion iu an appropriate manner. After considerable discussion it was unanimously decided that when word has been received that Germany has surrendered a- public Thanksgiving Service will be -held in Munro's Hall, at which addresses will •be g'ven by the local clergymen and other leading citizens. This public meeting will commence at. 8 o'clock on the evening of the day on which official information of the! surrender of Germany comes to hand.

On the motion of Mr H. Barclay the following were appointed a -committee \to make detailed arrangements in connection with the public meeting:— Messrs X. Hayes. A. M'lnries, T. A. Munro, L. Pavletich, and the Re,vs. J. Craig and W. Willis. It- was -decided to hold a- procession on the day following, with a picnic and a social evening for the children of Ivurow and the surrounding districts. To carry out the arrangements in connection with Children's Day a large committee, including the school committees of Kurow .and Haka, was set up.

It was' moved by Mr H. Barclay, seconded by. Mr Quaife, and carried, that a. subscription list"-be- got cut to defray expenses in connection with Children's Day. Mr A. H. Chapman kindlv donated £2 to the expenses -fund. Both' these, sub-committees have .met- and made full arrangements for the celebration of- the coming occasion in -fi, fitting manner.
