OAMARU BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The Oamaru Borough Council met i last night. The Mayar presided, _ and there were also present Councillors Hodman." Woodward, Forrester. Sinclair, Miller. Mitchell, Mahan, Swinard', and Cooney. Leave of absenct- was granted Councillors Allan ond Ireland —Correspondence. — Messrs Ongley and Bulleid on behalf of Mrs F. Bulleid! applied for half rates in No. 172, and J. Robson for rebate cn lot 5. railway Teserve. —The applications were granted'. Mr F. Chase wrote claiming an outlet over the dram from the wood pipe, ana' access for the tenant. —Dealt within the Electricity; Committee's report. The Borough lilectrica] Engineer, Mr 1. Dalmer, reported that a quotation had been received from the National Electrical and' Engineering Company, Dune dan, of an alternator at a price of £1320, or an increase of 10 par cent, on its offer of May 29. —The report was received.
Messrs Ongley and Bulleid wrote that Mr A. Smith required only a , half chain entrance to section I, block 80, and was prepared! to consent to the closing of--the remainder.—The matter was leftm the hands of his Worship to take the necessary steps to have a half chain street \onstituted l .
A. and E. Watts 1 asked for the reerection of fence oil section 4, block 54, taken down by the Council when the culvert was built-. —Referred to the Engineer for action. The Water-race Inspector, Mr P. Fraser, .reported that notwithstanding delays for timber good progress had been made in fluming the break in; the water-race and the main portion rvould be finished that day (Friday). There 'remained 32 feet at each end to connect audi sis chains of the race re--quired to be repuddled, which would, necessitate: the race being empty for 30 hours. It- was expected to g,et the full head of water over the new flume on Tuesday aft-einoon. —The report was received. -
The Mayor stated that the water coming into the reservoir. was keeping, up to the consumption. The Acting-District Health Officer suggested the spraying of all places of amusement with 2 per cent, formalin in view of the .influenza, epidemic.—lt was decided! to give effect "to th© suggestion.
Mr E. Brown, jun.; wrote complaining that his. gas accQunt was,, excessive. For the month it was £ll lis, wlieireas his yearly total only a little over £7. It would'frake 24 days and nights running continubusly with all lights to" achieve tha, total used' as per the Borough's account. —The matter was referred) to the Gas Committee with power to act, the writer to ledge the amount of t!he- account as a deposit. The solicitor of the Public Trust Office, Mr -Geo, Rose, confirmed the arrangement- entered into in reference to the repayment of the existing d'ebenbures. —The letter was received and' the Mayor was congratulated .on the success of his mission to Wellington. The Finance Committee recommended payments of accounts totalling £3SO 15s 7di.—The- report was ad'opted. Tli s Works Committee reported l thatthe works required by Mr Chase were being done.—The report was adopted.
