At- Sefton and; Balcairn, the gra.ss--paddocks were .swept, and near Amberley Mr A. Payne lost,.a live-roomed house, and 30 acres of wheat, 10 acres of oats..and 10" acres of grass' seed, and M'Adam Brother* lost 20 acres of wheat. Messrs Todd Brothers' "threshing-mill was saved only by '•ijack-liflng."' The progress of the fire was staved by the Kawai river. The damage .would "prob-i ably have been greater only for the efforts of all present at the Amberley .stock sale," who rushed to the scene in motor ears and other conveyances, and headed, the flames off in the middle of M-Ada?ii Brothers' oat crop.
