A communique states:- —Our attack on Mort Homme progressed during the night. We also took a trench on tho northern fringe of Caurettc A\ r ood. A ■violent enemy bombardment east of tho Meuso was followed up at the close of day by a powerful offensive action on atwo kilometres front between TJvianmont farm and A r aux pond. Germans who succeeded in getting a footing in our lines south of Douaumont fort wero completely ejected by our night coun-ter-attack, in -which wc captured two maihine-guris and some prisoners. AA r e also progressed in the sector south of Haudronont Wood, liberated souk; French prisoners, and captured a number of the enemy. Loudon, April 21 (7.25 p.m.l A French official message says that west of the Meuse our attack in tho region of Mort Homme progressed. During the night wo carried a trench north of Caurettcs Wood and made prisoners four officers and 150 men. East of the Meusc a violent enemy bom bardment ivas followed by a powerful offensiv6 on a front of two kilometres. The Germans gained a. footing in the south fort of Douaumont, but wero thrown out by a night counter-attack. Wo capturing two machine guns and taking prisoners. AA T est of Douaumont and south . of Haudroniont AVood wo made progress," delivering French prisoners and "taking 2S German prisoners. IN MESOPOTAMIA. -London, April 21 (7.25 p.m.) In the. lighting on the 17th and 18th 10,000 of the enemy, attacking in dense formation,.'penetrated part of our front. .Fifteen hundred dead Turks were counted within 500 yards in frontof one of our brigades, and more wero lying,'thick an. front-of other portions of our lines. It is estimated that tho enemy, killed on the night- of tho 17th numbered over 3000. In several instances . the attacks were led by Germans, some of whom were killed. Apparently the enemy supposed part of our troops had been isolated by tho floods -and that they could overwhelm them,, whereas supr>orts were actually arriving. Our killed, wounded, andmissing were fewer than tho Turkish Killed.-: Tiie floods are;'spreading.
