SCULLING.
C. TOWNS v. W. WEBB. As .there.' is no'immediate prospect of Charles Towns being challenged for the championship of New South Wales, a match between him and William Webb, of New Zealand, lias been suggested. The two men met on the Parramatta in 1907, Towns being then the champion of the world by reason of his brother George forfeiting the title to him. It was a desperate race for a mile and quarter, where Towns was but a bare length behind. Webb was in Towns' water when the latter spurted, and a foul occurred. Towns stopped, and appealed to 'the umpire, but Webb went on, and passed the nidge first. A protest by Towns was dismissed by the umpire, and Webb became champion until beaten by Arnst. It was a most unsatisfactory ending to a giyind race, which appeared to belong to either man at the moment of the foul. Tliev have not met sirn l . Towns states that lie would be willing to row the. New Zeaknd°r for £2OO and allow him expenses for the journey across, providpd '<e (Towns) can get the backing, and- the match h.as now been arranged.
