KINDERGARTEN TEACHERS.
| (Per Press Association.) Dunedin, December 22. Addressing a gathering at the opening of the Model Kindergarten at South Dunedin this afternoon, the Hon. Jas. Allen (Minister of Education) mentioned that the representatives of kindergarten associations had recently .met in Wellington to consider, among other things, the question of training kindergarten teachers on a systematic plan. A certain line of action had been agreed upon, and within the last week or so they had approached him as Minister of Education with suggestions. One of those matters they had agreed upon was that these teachers should be more definitely recognised by tho 'State, and they had asked the Government to assist them by examining these teachers in such a way that there would be a definite standard set which in the one case would be equal to the standard set for kindergarten teachers at Home, and which in the other case would be a standard for New Zealand. He had referred the matter to the Department for report as to whether it was possible for t the State to undertake, the examinations. He believed the Department would be able to undertake the work, and he looked forward to the time when many of these teachers with the Government mark upon them would drift into the public schools.
