WESLEY CHURCH.

OPENING OP THE NEW PIPE ° ORGAN; '- There. was a very large attendance at Wesley Church last evening, when Mr Edgar Randal, the organist of St.: Paul's Church, opened tile new pipe organ. Of Mr Randal's ability the Oarnaru public has already full knowledge, and last night's performance was in no degree behind recitals given on previous occasions, when- Mr Randal has.delighted those who, appreciate good music. The programme was varied, not only to suit the tastes of a mixed audience, but also to exhibit the capabilities of the new instrument, which favor, ably impressed those present with its neat and artistic appearance and full rich tones. Opening with Dubois' lively "Toccata," wherein- tire- organist disr' played some skilful fingering, Corbett's "Rove d'Amour" followed, with its quaint melody and harmonious combinations. Then came Tschaikowskv's | "Chanson Triste," to be succeeded, by Mendelssohn's "Sonata," a- fine performance, the pedaling in the Finale being very impressive. Mascagni's evergreen "Intermezzo," Lemare's tuneful "Gavotte Moderne," and a Bach "Prelude'' succeeded. Then came a beautiful "Nocturne" and "Theme" by, h aulkes (bracketed), the latter affording the listener groat pleasure in following the subject throughout its many 'transformations. Welv's "March" con-" eluded the programme, and left the impression. not only that Mr Randal is a capable performer, but that the Oamaiu Methodists are the happy possessors of a fine organ. During the evening the Wesley Choir, assisted bv some friends from St. Paul's Church", song the "Hallelujah" Chorus and ' 'Hie Heavens arc telling"-in a very creditable manner. At the conclusion of the recital, a pleasant little gathering of the clioir and their friends took place, when there was a general expression of satisfaction at the success of the opening' performance.
