EXCELLENT PRICES. (Per Phess Association.) .... Dunedin, December 16. The first wool sale of tihe season was held to-day. There were high' prices and keen competition for the 8700 hales catalogued. The quality of the wool was excellent. Bradford, Continental and American; buyers operated freely. Super half-bxeds brought up to 143 d (a record for the Dominion this year) ; good, lL}d to 12jd; super crosshreds, up to 13Jd; good, lid to Is Id; medium, lOd to lldj inferior, 9d to DJd; merino, 9id tolled, HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE. (Per Press Association.) Wellington, December 16. Following is the High Commissioner's cable, dated London, December 14th. (Quotations, unless otherwise specified;, are average market prices on spot):— The mutton market is firm, stocks on hand being light arid firmly held in few hands. The high prices are restricting business. Canterbury 4£d, North Island! 4jd. Lamb.—There is good demand for all lamb, with small supply. New Zealand and Australian supplies are increasing. Canterbury sfd, other than Canterbury sgd. The beef market is firm with more inquiry. Stocks of New Zealand beef on hand are light. New Zealand hinds SJd, fores 3&di. ~ The butter market remains firm, with i fair demand for.better grades for Christmas trade, but for ordinary quality the market is quiet. At the advance in values it is_ extremely difficult to decide.
