COMMERCIAL.

THE LOCAL MARKETS. ' Oamaru Mail Office, Monday Afternoon. The week has been a very quiet one locally, and business is dull. Very little wheat was placed under offer, and on the other hand millers seem more disinclined to operate than ever, unless it is for prime lines of velvet, and then only at current rates. One or two small lines of velvet changed) hands at prices equalling 3s 8d nett at sidings. Redchaff is quoted at Id less than velvet, and Tuscan (if good) 3s 6d to 3s 6Jd. There is no demand for inferior Tuscan. There is little or nothing doing on the oats market, as northern centres are offering stocks of inferior. The" approach of the holiday season, too, militates against business. Nominal auotations are: A grade Is lljdi to 2s, B grade Id less, nett at sidings. Very little business is anticipated by merchants until after the holidays, as shipping will be disorganised.
