AUSTRALASIAN AMATEUR ATHLETIC CHAMPIONSHIP. .

(Per Press Association.) Wellington, December 26. The New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association's Australasian championship meeting opened to-day in fine weatfier. The going was in fair order despite the two days' fairly heavy rain": The attendance was rfbout- 5000. The "star" item of the day's sport was Opie's win in the 100 Yards Championship, the New Zealander having to dive to beat Redmond. The heats in this event were rim against the wind and the final with it. Kelly (Victoria) annexed the liigTT jump event, with oft oin, and afterwards cleared sft B.',in. Kerr had no difficulty in retaining the Mile Walk Championship. M'Grath (Queensland) secured the 161b Shot Putting Championship. Hill and Pugli were the only starters in the mile run, the former winning comfortably. Keddell liad nothing to heat in the 120 Yards Hurdles, and Opie had a similarly easy ta.sk in the 440 Yards Flat. Championship results : 100 YARDS FLAT CHAMPIONSHIP.
