Tho Norwegian schooner Obcron from Peru to Newcastle signalled . Cape Hawke that all her crew were ill and that the mate and a sailor had died during the vovage. She was short of supplies and asked that a tug and provisions bf supplied. A tug was sent. ITALY AND TURKEY. Received December 26, at 0.20 a.m. Rome. December 25. Some 3500 Turks and Arabs attacked Colonel Fara's force at Birtobras,*"near Azizia. Fara formed a square and his zareba was exposed for twenty hours to a hot fire. The troops displayed admirable discipline and coolness, repelling five desperate assaults. One thousand Turks and Arabs attacked the troops guarding the earthworks for the new battery overlooking Tobruk roadstead, and a six hours' fight ensued wherein the warships participated. The Italians had seven men killed and sixteen wounded. The assailants were repulsed, losing heavily. Received December 26, at 1.5 a.m. Alexandria, December 2-5. After the confiscation of the gold, the Menzelah was released.

The Governor of Tabriz estimates that the Russians killed 500 Persians.
