(Per Pbess Association.) Wellington, December 22. In proposing the toast of Mr Wilford's health at the complimentary social last night, Mr R. Fletcher said the time was now coming when iurtlier honors would he heaped upra him. Replving, Mr "Wilford said the worst part "of his public life came that dav, when he had been informed by his medical advisers that he would be unable to take office, if it were offered him. He had been 18 years getting where he was Eoliticallv, so it came hard. Me beeved, however, in a few months he would be wholly recovered. He had hesitated whether to resign or not. but before he went abroad he would leave signed his nomination paper behind, and leave himself in the electors' hands. and if he returned without his health being restored he would immediately resign.
