BREACH OF PROMISE AND BANKRUPTCY.

(Per Press Association.) Auckland, December 22. John Pearcej who, since his recent breach of promise ense, has been known as "the man with the leaky heart," has appeared in the role of bankrupt. At a meeting of creditors lie stated that his liabilities were £3lB 12s 3d and his assets £2OO 4s 7d. As a result of an action for breach of promise of marriage brought by Miss Dinan the Court awarded £270 damages and costs £4B 12s sd. This amount was still owing, and Miss Dinan was his only creditor. He had offered to Miss Dinan £l5O in settlement of the Court's award, but she had declined to accept that sum. Bankrupt was closely questioned as to a certain deed of trust in which he held an interest with other members of his family, and the Official Assignee agreed to the creditor's request to put in a claim for one-third the amount of the trust property so that it might be contested iu the Supreme Court.
