STEWARD TESTIMONIAL.
Wo liavo received tlio following suma towards the fund which is being promoted in South Canterbury and North Otago to assist Sir W. J. Steward, on his retirement from the House of Representatives, to pay for the cottage which he has purchased in a suburb of Wellington. It was thought by the Waimate authors of this idea that it would be the most practical way of recognising Sir William's many services to South Canterbury and North Otago during the many years of his representation of their interests in Parliament. We need hardly say that no part_ of the country, has ever had so never-tiring and successful advocate, and, though Sir William has not represented our district specifically, he has never forgotten it and has been ever ready to promote its advancement; Subscriptions, however small, will bo gladly received at the "Mail" office during the next 1 few days: Mr John Buckley ... ..: £5 0 0 Mr J.
