WESTPORT RACES. (Per Press Association.) We.stport. March 17. The Westport Jockey Club's autumn meeting opened to-day. Rain fell in the morning and cooled the air and improved the track, which had been hardened by the previous protracted spell of dry weather. Results: Flying Handicap, 5 furlongs.—Redwing, 8.2, and Feathers ton, 6.7 (dead heat), 1; Merchantman, D.U, 3. Also started: Montague, Balmy Breeze, Jennie, and Colleen. A fine race, all the placed horses entering the straight on almost level terms. Redwing and Featherston ran a dead heat, witli Merchantman a bare half length away. Time, lmin 4 4-ssec. ' Stewards' Handicap, 6 furlongs.— Maria, 11.0, 1; Sultan, 9.7, 2; Subdue, 9.7, 3. Nine others ran. Won by two lengths. Time, lmin 21 3-ssec. Orawiti Handicap /Trot; li mile.— . A mber Tips, 27sec, 1; Zeppa, ~2lsec, 2 ; Coney, scr., 3. Seventeen others ran. A protest by the owner of Zeppa against Amber Tips on the ground of interfer-. ence was dismissed. West-port Cup, 9 furlongs.—lnvestment, 7.7, 1; The Orient, 6.7, 2; Redwing, 7.11, 3. The only starters. Won by half a length, a long, neck between second and third. Time,2min.-. Addison's Hack Handicap, 7 furlongs. —Parallel, 9.7, 1; Blue Sky, 10.3, 2; Lady Wreath, 9.0, 3. Four others ran. : Time, lmin 34'3-ssec. J lie stewards of the Wostport Jockey Club dismissed the protest against Featherston in the Railway Plate race to-dav.
