SHOCKING DEATH OF WELLKNOWN MAN.

. - (Per Press Association.)! ■-:' Wellington, January 25. Horatio M. Lyons,, aged 60 years, one of Wellington's best known citizens, met his death in a tragic manner this afternoon. He had been attending the races at Trentham, and left the course to return to the city by the early train. Mr Lyon was crossing the line to reach the platform on the other side, and being short-sighted did not notice a train approaching. He.was struck by the incoming train, and practically cut to pieces. His body was only recovered by raising, the carriages by the 'use of jacks. It was then • found to be terribly mutilated, showing that death must hafe been, instantaneous. : ' Deceased -was for many years secretary of the Wellington -Racing Club, in- which capacity : he was -widely known. He .was five years secretary of the Wellington Harbor Board. For the last few years, until his retirement from the position recently, Mr'Lyon was secretary of the Fire Underwriters' Association.
