FEARFUL EXPLOSION.

New York, December 20. j I - By- the explosion 125. people ,were in-; jured, several ■ fatally. . Ninety-eight' of these have been admitted to the hospital. . The accident was due to a tram or empty cars wrecking a gaspipe at the rear of the bufi'ershop. - Tlie gas accumulated, and was exploded by an acci-, dental electric spark. A trolley car and. an automobile were hurled away together by tlie'force of the explosion, and four of the latter's passengers werq killed instantly. A stenographer was speared tlu'ough the head by a flying timber ioist. A- policeman was leading two girls across the ~ street when , one was torn from, his hand and ; hurled! yards away. The other's leg was cut, off bv a piece ;of flying iron. The i tables of a teachers' training. school: were spotted with blood blow n up from the street. Babies were flung "but of their baths in a babies' homo in the vicinity of tho explosion. Thousands of windows were wrecked. The firehouse . collapsed and the powerhouse was wrecked and cars smashed. The damage will probably amount to a quarter of a million sterling. -
