From Our OwrrCorre.sjJbndent.) ' A meeting of the above was held on Tuesdays, at 6.30 p.m. Present: Messrs J. Sinclair (Chairman). Inkster, Sanders, Orbell, Beckett, Dr Barclay, and! Rev. A. S. Morrison. The Rector reported that the roll number was 54, with an average attendance of 52. The work and- conduct of the school was satisfactory. He found that the adoption of the Agricultural course was interfering with the literary side of the school, and next year it would be necessary to make a

distinct division between those pupils who wanted a literary course and those who were going in for the agricultural course. If the attendance increased by about 14 pupils the school would be entitled to an extra assistant and the classes could be re-arranged. The Chairman reported that tho cre<l,o balance was £IOO in excess of what it was a year previously, and it was resolved that £l5O be deposited in the Post. Office Savingjjßank. . On the recommendation of Mr Pitcaithly it was decided to refund to five parents of. boys attending the High School the amount expended during the year in school books, Mr Sanders raising the point that the Board should satisfy itself; that the cases were deserving, pointing out onb case in particular about which there was considerable doubt. Members generally were prepared to leave the matter wholly to the headmaster.

A long discussion took place as to the best means of assisting agricultural education in the district, and it was decided to ask Mr Anderson, of Lincoln College, and Mr Brown, the instructor for South Canterbury, to visit Waimate and conFer, with the Board as to the advisability of founding a scholarship tenable at Lincoln College. The question of making a grant to tlics School Committee's prize fund was brought lip, and it was decided to defray the cost of the dux medal (£2 2s) and of the prizes presented to the Higli School pupils (£5 ss), a suggestion by Mr Inkster that a lump sum of £lO 10s be donated finding no support. It Was. also decided that in; future the Board select the "prizes for the High School pupils , and make the arrangements for their presentation, this duty having been attended to by the School Committee previously. . • The Chairman (Mr J. Sinclair) stated that this would be his last Tneetinp of the Board, as he would be forwarding his resignation to the body he represented. He took this opportunity of wishing- members good-bye. In doing so lie reviewed the history and present position of the Boar.d. He would' be leaving Waimate early in January, but would always have the Best interests of the Board at heart. He thanked members for the manner in which they had supported him in the discharge of hisduties as' Chairman. -

Members generally expressed their, appreciation of Mr Sinclair's services, and. regretted his departure, at, the same time wishing him and his family health and prosperity in their new home.
