evening are invited to attend the "Catch-My-Pal Society's" meeting in the Awamoko School, when the Rev. F. G. Buckingham will address the meeting. The local representative of the Associated Board of the Royal Academy and Royal College has received word that tho examiner, Mr Howard Hadley, expects to be in Oamaru on Thursday, 17th November, for the purpose of conducting the practical examination. The opening of a school in a district is surely worth some celebration. The settlers on the Kauroo Estate intend to mark the opening of their institution by a social, to be held in the woolshed on Friday evening next. Mr G. H. Wood will bring the skating season to a close, with a social function in the Hakataramea Hall on Thursday evening next. The entertainment will take the. form of a dance, with intervals for skating. Ladies are admitted by basket. The fact that that most necessary apparatus—the sterilising plant—has been installed, Ba'sil Emslie's Saloon might reasonably be described as in advance of the times —that is, if the average saloons are examples of up-to-dateness.
