THE PLUNKET NURSES.
(Per Press Association.) ■Wellington, July 25. A deputation representing the Society for the Promotion of the Health of Women' and Children waited on the Premier and Mr- Buddo to-day, with a request that the Government .should renew the grant of £SOO for the Karitane Home and £SO for each Phinket nurse. It was stated that at present there were 130 Phinkef nurses, and last year in the centres they attended an average of 300 cases. The Karitane Home provided a training ground for nurses. It had been suggested that the home should bo brought under the control of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. The deputation thought such steps detrimental to., the institution. The cost of each Plunket nurse was £2OO, so that the public was subscribing £3 for each £1 that the Government was asked to subscribe. The Premier, in reply, said the Government was favorable to what had been carried out both.by the home and the nurses, but in regard to the request for a grant for the home the Government wanted to be sure that such applications would he limited to one insitution. .He was favorable to continuing the subsidy to a limited immbe-r of Plunket nurses.
