DUNTROON SCHOOL CONCERT.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Last Friday evening the Duntroon School held the annual concert and dance in aid of the school funds. It was a splendid night, and the Defence Hall was packed to the door. Mr W. Yardley occupied the chair, and in a few words thanked the people for coming out in such numbers. He was very pleased, he said, to see they were as ready as ever to help to keep the school funds up and thereby keep the good name we have won from the inspectors for' having everything in good • order. He was sorry the teachers had been to a disadvantage this year in working up the children for the concert on account of the broken weather lately, .which prevented children from a distance attending school so regularly-, especially as the wet weather was aggravated by a lot of sickness. .So that if the concert was not the usual success the' audience would know the circumstances. The following is the pro-gramme:—-Part I.: Duet, Miss J. Gibson and Douglas .Sutherland; chorus by senior girls; chorus by senior room; song, Eric Johnston (encored); chorus, senior room; quartette, Masters N. O'Conner, A. M'Donald, H. Feild, and J. Beck (encored); song, senior room (encored); song, primary room (encored); recitation, Miss J. Millen ; song, primary room; dumb-bell exercises, primary room boys; fan song, .primary room girls "(encored) ; dance, Misses K. Grave and D. Kelly (encored). The second part consisted of the cantata, "Soot and the Fairies," which was very well given. The concert part of the evening was finished by singing the "National Anthem."

The Chairman moved a hearty vote of thanks to Mr Rodger and Miss Weir for the way in which the children had carried out the programme and, the trouble they had been put to in training them for the concert. He wished to move a special vote of thanks to Misses K. Grave and D. Kelly, who came up from Oamaru to assist, and Miss Falconer for playing the music for them. Their dancing deserved the greatest praise. He also wished to thank the parents for providing the refreshments, and all the helpers, and the children for doing so well. Refreshments were then handed round and the hall cleared for dancing. The M.'sC. during the evening were Messrs M. Stalker and M. Francis; the music was supplied by Messrs J. Patterson and J. Sutherland, jun. Everyone was well pleased with the concert, and all thoroughly enjoyed the evening.
