NGAPARA NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) In common with other parts of Nortli Otago we are revelling in the pleasant sunny weather which has followed the recent rains. True, the mornings and evenings are chilly, but the month is July and what else can we expect? To make the best of the long evenings, the young people are disporting themselves on the lively roller skate. .This form of amusement, unlike some others, is as diverting to the onlookers as to the participants—perhaps more so. There is a beautiful uncertainty about results, which reminds us of the no ot[.iv uuui ou qjddo.id bis armor boast himself, like he who taketh it off." The bachelors propose giving their annual ball on the 29th, which function is expected to be quite up to the usual standard. We hear that they intend to leave off skating for a week previous, to give the hall floor a chance to recover its equilibrium. A boxing class is being instructed one evening in the week, a class for stepdancing and bagpipe playing on another, while on a third a well-attended and enthusiastic "Young People's Society" is held. Those who attend all these classes may be said to live a rather, strenuous life, and yet people say ."How lonely it must be in the country; how do you fill in the time?" I
