[By Electric Telegraph—Copyrijht.j (Per Press Association.) . Received July 23, at 10.50 a.m. London, July 22. Colonel Heard, of the Northumberland Fusiliers, has been appointed Director of Military Training in New Zealand.

By Telegraph. (Special to the Oamaru Mail.) Wellington, July 23. .Lieut.-Colonel E. C. Heard, of the Northumberland Fusiliers, the newDirector of Military Training, is aged 47 years. He became a lieutenant in the South Yorkshire Regiment in 1881, lieutenant in the Northumberland Fusiliers in the same year, a captain in 1902, and major in 1905. Ho was instructor at the Staff College at Camberley from 1897 till 1901, and saw special service in South Africa. He was appointed*D.A.A.o. and was professor at the Staff College from 1901 to, 1902. He took part in the Vagara campaign in 1888, and received the medal with clasps;
