LABOR CONGRESS.
(Per Press Association.) Auckland. July 23. The Trades and Labor Conference unanimously adopted the following recommendation by a special committee appointed to consider the best sclienre for getting compulsory preference:— "That the Conference ask that the Conciliation and Arbitration Act be amended to enable unions to strike off their books any member three monchs in arrears; that preference be granted to financial members of unions; that unions be asked to amend their rules accordingly." It was further resolved to ask for an amendment of the Act providing that the award of the Court shall apply to all employers of any one industry without, making it compulsory to cite every individual employer before the Court. It was resolved to ask the Government to carry out public works by day labor instead of by the co-operate system,, which was described as inequitable.
' The Conference protested against the Government assisting domestics into the Dominion.
_ It \vas agreed that the Otago Council be the executive for next year. The next Conference will be held*at Christchurch.
