(Per Press Association.) Received July 23. at 10.50 a.m. London, July 22. In Committee Mr Barnes moved the reduction of the Civil List to £385,000, and urged that the revenue of the Duchies of Cornwall and Lancaster should be handed to the Exchequer. Itwas an insult to the Committee's intelligence to toll them that the Duchy of 'ornwall's revenue of £92,000 should be handed to a boy of 16 or that he could spend - it. Mr Barnes also declared that the Royal Household was honeycombed witlr abuses and parasites who were buttoning on the nation under the shadow of the throne. Mr Balfour pointed out that for 500 years the r 'iuds derived from the Duchy of Cornwall !i il gone to the Sovereign's eldest son. Other members argued that the duchies were Crown property and never the Sovi-rrign's private possession.. The amendment was defeated bv 206 to 26. Other amendments moved by the Labor members were rejected by similar majorities.
Mr Keir Hardie caused great protest by saying that they were voting money to enable the King's children to live, in luxury, ease, and idleness Mr Lloyd-George said this charge was the last that could be brought against the Royal Familv.
