(Per Press Association.) Wellington, July 13. The question of the free importation of agricultural implements in relation to their increased cost was discussed at . the Farmers' Union Conference to-day. Several speakers declared that the farming community paid twenty per cent, more for agricultural implements than when they were not on the ir r e list. It was also asserted that if 'hi Act. were repealed farmers could get their implements :ir least 30 per cent. lower than to day. On the other hand, it was stated that there would be •danger of local manufacturers being crushed out if the. Act were repeal?!. A motion' was eventually carried that the Agricultural' Implements Importation aiid Sales Act be repealed. CLOSER SETTLEMENT. (Per Prkss Association.) Chri>tclmreh, July 13. The Lauds Department is throwing open 5405 acres in Canterbury for closer settlement next month.
