Interviewed, he said he hoped to extend relations between the two countries. He was convinced a large trade could be developed, especially in frozen mutton. Canada was extremely anxious to promote relations. He did not regard. the drought in Canada as very serious, as it only affected a portion of the country. He spoke hopefully of the prospects of the new steamer service between Montreal and Aew Zealand, and strongly favors the transcontinental railways.
