ST. JOHN AMBULANCE BRIGADE.

PALMERSTON BRANCH. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The 'annual meeting of tlie men's division of St. John's Ambulance Brigade was held on Thursday evening, when there was a fair attendance of members. Mr Wheeler, Superintendent, presided. The Secretary, Mr G. B. Smith, read the annual report, which contained the following:— "We started the year with a balance of £7 lis Id. At the present time it stands at £9 18s sd, showing an increase of £2 7s 4d. Donations from Mr G. F. Cockerill and from the members of the Ath6nfcurn Committee were thankfully received. Owing to the absence of the Hon. Surgeon, Dr Hislop, no lectures were delivered last year, but regular practices were held, the members in turn reading papers dealing with various branches of ambulance work. The annual inspection was conducted bj- the Deputy Commissioner, Major Barclay, on August 26tli, when there were eleven members present. The annual re-examination was conducted by Dr Liddell,of Herbert. During the year the members of the Brigade were called upon to render first aid on thirteen occasions, and the services of members were frequently requisitioned for transport purposes." The election of officers resulted as follows Superintendent, R. W. Wheeler ; First Officer, H. Beckingsale; Sergeant, R. Pollock; Corporals, J. Stewart and A. Gilmore; Inspector of Stores, J. M'Farlane; Secretary and Treasurer, G. B. Smith. It was decided to ask Dr Howden to accept the position of Honorary Surgeon rendered vacant by the removal of Dr Hislop to Wellington. The Secretary was instructed to write to Dr Hislop thanking him for the valuable services he had rendered to the Brigade for so many years. It was decided to meet for practice in the Athenrpuni Hall on the second and fourth Thursday in each month.
