HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. (Peb Pkess Association.) Wellington, May 9. The following is the High Commissioner's cablegram from London : Tiie mutton market is -weak, with a poor local demand. Tho average prices are: Canterbury, 3;Jd; North Island, 3!d. The lamb market is firm, with a good demand for all descriptions. The - average prices are: Canterbury, ssd; oilier New Zealand lamb,'od. The beef, market is firm, with an. improved demand. Stocks of New Zealand beef on hand are light, and supplies of American chilled small. Average prices: New Zealand hindquarters, 4-',d; forerjuarters, 3:M. The butter market is dull, with a downward tendency, and supplies are increasing. The average price for New Zealand choice is 109s, Australian 105s, Danish 117s. Siberian 107s per cwt. The cheese market is quiet, with a tendency in favor of buyers. Average pi-iees: New Zealand finest white 595, colored 58s per cwt. Tho wheat market is dull and unsettled. The oats market is slightly weaker, with less demand. The peas market is much weaker, with less demand. The beans market is steady, and prices well maintained, but buyers are cautious. The cocksfoot seed market is very dull, and there is scarcely any demand. New Zealand bright clean 171b seed, on spot, averages 50s per cwt. The wool market remains firm.

GRAIN AND PRODUCE REPORT.

Messrs Dalget-.v and Company, Ltd., report as follows: — Yv e held our usual weekly auction sale of grain and produce at onr stores on Monday, wlicn we offered a large catalogue to a full attendance of buyers. Competition was keen for all classes or produce, and we cleared our catalogue as under: — Oats. —The market shows little change from last week. Farmers are not inclined to rush their grain on to the market, and sales that have eventuated have been at full market rates. Prime milling. Is lid to 2s; good to best feed, Is 'Old to Is IO.Vd; inferior to medium, Is 7-Jd to Is 9d (per bushel, sacks extra). Wheat.- —The market- remains in the same position as last week. Millers having considerable stocks now on hand will only take choice samples. Fowl wheat is plentiful, and meets with only a limited demand. Prime milling. Ss lOd to 3s lid; medium milling, 3s 7dio 3s 9d: best whole fowl wheat. 3s 3d to 3s 6d : medium fowl wheat, 3s to 3s 2d; broken and damaged. 2s to 2s 9d (per bushel, sacks extra). Potatoes. —There is a good demand for thoroughly sound lines of I~p-to-Dates, but other sorts are not in request. Prime l'p-to-J)atos, £-1 to £4 2s del ; choice, to £4 *>s; medium to good, -£3 5s to £3 15s; inferior, £2 to £2 5s (per ton, sacks included). Chaff. —Exceptionally heavy consignments have come to hand during the last week and consumers are tuliy supplied. Prices, however, continue about on a par with -'late "rates owing to holders having confidence in the market. Prim." oaten sheaf. £3 12s od to +"3 Ljs; medium to good, £3 OS to £3 10s: inferior. £2 to' £2 13s (per ton, bags extra).

Straw. —Oaten, 80s to 32s Gd; wheaten. 22s 3d to 2-3s (pressed, ex truck).
