Received November 1, at 0.50 a.m. Brisbane.. October 31. In the cycling championships of Australasia, the lialf-mile was won by Bell (Queensland) and the ten miles by. Mutton (Sydney). TIMARU-CHRISTCHURCH ROAD RACE. (Per Press Association.). ' Christchurch, October 31. - The cycling road' race, 12 miles, from Timaru to Christchurch, took place on Saturday. Jatk Arnst (scratch), who gained 12th place, put up the. fastest time, with 6hr 34min" 2sec.O'Shea's (45riiiili) -riding time was 7hr 6hiin 55sec; Maw's (39min 26sec; G. Garrett, 6hr 50min 37 3-ssec. J. M'Teague, 6Kr oSmin 58sec. The prizes for the fastest times .were not awarded, as the League is holding an enquiry into alleged irregularities. In connection with the road race six divisions of the St. John Ambulance Brigade were stationed at various parts of the route, and did excellent work in attending to cyclists who were hurtby falls from their machines. A considerable number'of cases were treated, including a broken collarbone, broken rib, and a case of supposed rupture, and hut for a ilood'iu the Sehvyu preventing motor cars operating south of that river thcv would have been able to do much more in assisting those injured. A motor cyclist patrol did good service. Many of the cases were dealt with on the arrival of the contestants at Pluinpton Park. One cyclist (D. Flanaghan) is reported to have been thrown off his machine and to have turned a somersault in the jlrocess, and as a result received bruises to his shoulders, hands, ankles, and elbows.
