MILLOWNERS AND WORKERS.
(Piiii Pkess Association.) " W aim ate, September 1. Mr Triggs, Conciliation Commissioner, met the South Canterbury millowners and workers' representatives here to-day in regard to matters in dispute, and after a conference an agreement was arrived at on all the matters submitted to the Commissioner. The workers asked for the hour system, but agreed that it be optional on either side to have the contract or hour system. A shilling an hour was agreed to as against a shilling and found asked for; piece work rates for ordinary workers; 12s per thousand bushels wheat or barley, and. 10s for oats; no threshing out of the stook to be allowed; one shilling an hour to be allowed when shifting the mill from stack to stack; a week's notice to be given on either side, or a week's pay to be forfeited, to go to the store fund. Other demands of the_workers, including preference, were granted.' The award will have force for two years.
