(Per Teess Association.) Christchurch, September 1. At the Magistrate's Court to-day Henry Potter pleaded guilty to four charges of forgery and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. J. A. Blackett pleaded guilty to two charges and also was committed for sen-, tcncc. In all cases the forgeries were to cheques of small amounts. Wellington, September 1. The Supreme Court concluded the hearing of the wages case of William Gregory v. Mary Gregory (administratrix) and James S. Gregory, under a will. The claim was £312, sis years' wages at £1 a week as manager of a, fartn. The case was a family matter, in which all the parties were beneficiaries under the will. His Honor said the plaintiff was entitled to something, but not £1 a week, as the proceeds of the farm were small, and that the amount named would t-rencli on the estate. The plaintiff was entitled only to the amount to which the estate was benefited by his services. He awarded £75 and costs, to come out of the estate. The trial of Wimsett came to a conclusion this afternoon. Without leaving the box, the jury found Wimsett not guilty, adding that 'the trial left no stain on his character. Auckland, September 1. At the Supreme Court, in the second trial of Oscar Volfred Sgovoll on a charge of committing an indecent assault upon a little girl seven .years of age at Hamilton, the jury, after retiring for over two hours, brought in 3 verdict of "Guilty." The accused was sentenced to 12 mouths' imprisonment. Albert Charles Weingott, on a charge of liorse-stealing, was sentenced to IS months. Charles Bolton, charged with knowing a girl tinder 16 years of fge at Paeroa, was found guilty, and was remanded for sentence. Auckland, September 2. In the Police Court this morning, Arnold Hare, a young man, was charged with having sent to T. E. Clark letters containing threats with intent to extort money. One letter received by Clark demanded £SO for not disclosing matters concerning a certain firm, and the money was to be deposited in a certain place. The police were informed, and a watch was set, the accused being arrested. At the request of the police, the accused was remanded. Bail was allowed in two sureties of £SO each. Timaru, September 2. At the Court this morning the Magistrate (Mr Day) fined Thomas Grace £5 for shooting wild ducks out of season, and Timothy Toomey, hotelkeeper, Waimate, £2 and costs (£2 9s) for failing to supply the Commissioner of Taxes with land and income tax return.
