IMMACULATE SOUTHLAND.
(Per Press Association.) Invereargill August 31. Addressing tlio Grand Jury at. the Supremo Court, Judge Williams expressed great Satisfaction that there were 110 viminal cases. The district had always been remarkably free from crime, but this was the first time in his experience that there was absolutely no criminal case, though in 1901 and 190G, when Judge Denniston presided, the same thing had happened. The Crowii Prosecutor congratulated the town, and the Clerk of the Court presented his Honor with a pair oi white gloves. Judge Williams, returning thanks, remarked that if this part of the country was not blessed with such a soft and luxurious climate as in the North, it was a fact that tlio further North one went the greater the amount of crime. However that might be, it was clear that Southland had an honest, hard-working community in which the habitual criminal could find no place.
