HOCKEY.

GYMNASTIC 3.' v OAMARU 2. A Hockey match between teams from the above clubs was played on the Show Grounds on Saturday afternoon. Owing- to the -wet weather the ground was not in the best of order, but the few enthusiastic specters who? ventured forth were treated to a decidedly interesting game. During the first half, the local players had much the best of the game, and scored two goals before the whistle blew for half time, the first goal being hit by M'Douall from a very difficult angle, and the second by Grenfell. In the second, half, Gymnastic succeeding in preventing Oamaru from making any further 'score, and two goals scored by Crawford (one from a penalty bully) and one by Hogg, left, the visitors winners by 3 goals to 2. The two teams were very evenly matched, though some-of the visiting forwards were perhaps more experienced in the. fine points of the game. An unfortunate, "kick" by an Oamaru player, by which -the visitors scored from " penalty bully, , prevented the game resulting in a draw. The Gymnastic team was composed of both senior and 'junior players. Mr W. Hayman as usual gave general satisfaction as referee.
