THE POLICE COMMISSION.

(Per Press Association.) Auckland, August 30. Before the Police Commission this morning. Mr Kettle, senior stipendiary magistrate, expressed the opinion tha„ the discipline of the police force was not as good as it should be. He referred more particularly to some ot the vounger men appointed during the last two vears. He thought there should 1h» proper military' discipline m the force. He had seen officers this morning lolling outside the Court and smokin" while in uniform. He thought men should have at least three months training in barracks and go betorc a bo.-»rd of inquirv i>cfore they were sent out. He spoke highly of the various officers in the Auckland force. He thought, other things being equal, preference should l>e given to senior men where vacancies occurred.
