WAIAMTE NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Yesterday was a gilorious day, ;uid Waimate turned out in good numbers to attend the combined bands performance in Victoria Park. The Timaru Garrison Band drove down in a. couple of drags to return a visit paid them by tho local band a few weeks ago, and were cordially received and ■welcomed by Conductor Wills and his men. After dinner the combined bands, fifty slrong) marched to the park, "where the following programmes were • played to the evident satisfaction and appreciation of the gathering which responded "with a bumper collection of £6 5s :—Timaru (Conductor Mr E. Nockliu): Selection "Verdi," march "Washington Greys," a serenade, march "Sons of the-.Brave"; Waimate (conductor Mr W. J. Wills): March "Bendigo," euphonium .solo "The Pilgrim," song "Ora Pro JCobis." This, last item "was played at the special request of a number of musical enthusiasts. The bands afterwards-visited the Hospital and kindly gave the patients a treat by playing a couple of items in front of'the building. There can be no doubtas to tho popularity of brass band music in South Canterbury. These two bands alone, as they stood with instruments and uniform, represented' an expenditure of quite £ISOO, and finance does not appear to -worry either of them. ,
