AMBULANCE SATURDAY.

Collecting in connection with the above continued all day on Saturday, and on some of tlie .stations up till 9 o'clock in the evening. At about 8 o'clock a- start was made with the counting, and as the boxes were opened and their contents emptied out it was seen that the public had responded most liberally, to the appeal. The total amount contributed was £lO7 Us 3d, and compares favorably with the previous Saturday collection (£135 19s lid). Over 8400 coins were in the boxes, and as pennies predominated the bulk of the collection can be imagined. The result .should be gratifying alike to the Ambulance Brigade and to the public. After the count the members of the Brigade met the collectors at Mitchell's I Tea"Rooms, and tho announcement of the result was received with loud applause. The President (Ur Garland) announced that Mr \V. Straeiian. had donated a prizeto be awarded to the Jatly whose boxes contained the largest amount, Mrs Williams being the successful collector. The trophy was balloted for by Mrs Williams" assistants and was finally won by Miss It. Williams. A small total, however, docs not by any means indicate a lack of enthusiasm; "rather that the station worked by the lady was not capable of yielding a" high record. Votes of thanks were accorded Mr Strachan and the ladies who had assisted. The following shows the amount collected in respect of each station:
