Xovember 27. Duriicz the week little business has been done in wheat, a-- holders are firm in -'•aintaiiintr their ideas of value. I'p to 4s 2Jd has been oaid for local milling mirhut 4s 2d at country stations appears to be the limit for shipping. A line of Hunters has changed hands at 4s Ijfd. There :s no change to note in oat, or chaff. Potatoes, on account of their scarcity and a general demand having set in for supplies, have experienced a sudden advance up to £4 10s for Cp-to-Dates. and £5 for Derwents. But even at the.se figures onlv small quantities can be obtained. These two varieties have kept well this season, but Circular Heads have rotted badly during the past week or two. DUNEDIX MARKETS. To-dav"s Dtago Daily Times reports: — ' The feature of the local wheat market ' is the sparsity of offering's, and millers are | begining to be anxious as to their sources | of supply from now- until the marketing I of the new grain. Inquiries cabled to Australia give little hope of any relief from . that quarter, whatever may he the ulti- j mate position of prices in the Common- j wealth. Thus, although there are buyers , in the market at up to 4s s£d on trucks, j there is no grain suitable for .milling oh- i tain ihle at that price, and offers of 4s 4d j brin' onlv a few small lines. The sale of a decent line is reported on northern account at 4s 6d f.0.b.. Timaru. There are one or two lines still unsold in the Waimaie ,-md Damani districts, but the owners have placed a reserve of 4s 6d on trucks j upon them, a price which millers do not j feel justified in giving. For. failing a rise j in the price of flour—and which would at I once open the door for Australian lmpor- j tntions —to pav 4d on trucks means grist- -, ing practically without a profit, while any j advance must ensure an actual loss. j The local market continues hire of i (hick wheat, and orders are being filled j with medium quality milling. The cur- ! r.-nt quotation for good whole fowl wheat i is 4s sd. f.0.b.. sacks in. Local orders, j ex store, cannot be tilled at under 4s 4d. ; There is no change in the price of Hour, j which is selline freelv. The Association's J tariff is as follows:—Sacks. £lO 15s: ! 100's. £ll : 50's. £ll 10s : 25'.=. £ll 15s. The shipping mice is £lO 10s. and the Inver.argill price £ll. 1 The demand for offal is practically nil, and prices are unalteerd. The Association's tariff stands:—Bran. £4 15s for In.-al orders. a e,l £4 ICs. f.0.b.. for shipment : pollard. £6. both for 10-al orders and for shipment. There is little or no demand for oats, except for prime Cartons, which are scarce. Xominallv Is 8d f.0.b.. s.i.. is the current nnotation: hut no business is renorted at this price for B grade snarrowbills. I.ocallv. sales of good feed oats : have been made at Is 6d. ex store, but Is 6Jd is the ruling quotation. The price of oatmeal remains at £lO 10s ner ton. Pearl barlev is quoted at £l7. Potatoes.—Market "bare of good sound old =orts, which are worth up to £4 10s iw. r ton: medium. £3 lCfi to £3 15s : un"icked and poor sorts are practically unsaleable. Xew Potatoes: Peninsula grown. 2d to 2',d : Auckland. 1 i<l to 2d ; Seacliff. ljd to li-cl. TIMARU MARKETS. To dav's Timaru Herald reports : There' has been a fairly brisk enquiry for wheat this week, and a number of lines have changed hands at prices which mark an increase of a pennv per bushel on the values ruling last- week. Orders have been received from millers both in the North Island and South, whose supplies have dwindled down to small compass. Local millers are also operating to some extent. Sales are being made at 4s 5d f.0.b.. for Tuscan and Red Chaff, and tip to 4s 5Jd for Velvet, which is in very short supply. Tt is not possible to say with any degree of cc-rtiintv how the sale of the newseason's grain will open, nut it is reported that Australia mav be able to land wheat rheaner in Auckland, for northern millers, than'it is being sold at at the present time. Australian merchants are said to be offering the new season's wheat in Australia, at 4s 6d duty paid, c.i.f.. delivered at northern ports' in New Zealand, in a fewweeks' time. The oat market, is lifeless. Merchants here will not accept the prices offering from the North Island—namely. Is 8d to Is 9d per bushel for medium to good feed oats, f.0.b.. s.i. Holders are not inclined to part with their r-nvll stocks at this money. The potato market still retains a firm tendency at up to £4 per ton. f.o.b. for good Dcrwents. Flour 's selling at £lO 10s. oatmeal at £ll, bran at £4 15s. and pollard at £6 per ton. What does "L.K.G." mean?
