OVERCROWDING RAILWAY PLATFORMS.

To the Editor. Sir, —The travelling public should feel grateful for your remarks on the above, in your paper of the sth instant- It is simply disgraceful that the public are made to suffer from a grievance that can be .so easily remedied. Why don't the authorities make a. small charge in this town for a platform ticket at the holiday sea- | .sons, the same as is done in other parts of the colonv and all over Australia, I am informed. 15ut, oh dear, no! this would be far too much to expect from the powers that be ; so let the travelling public be hustled along the platform, jammed up against your luggage-office doors, tripped up by excited expressmen, flattened out by young gentlemen with bikes, and finally deafened by a guard in his anxiety to start the train. these are only a few of the pleasantries of our station. The crowning joke is that, after vainly trying to get a seat in any of the carriages as the train is just starting, you see a dozen ladies bound out of the different carriages. They have been having a quiet yam in one of the compartments, comfortably seated with their travelling friends, while you have been looking for a seat. Now that Easter is approaching, we will see what will be done to make things just a little more satisfactory for those persons who wish to meet their travelling friends. I am, etc., •AN EXASPERATED TRAVELLER.
