CORONATION SERVICE
Copies of "The form and order of service recommended for use in the -churches of the Church of England throughout his Majesty's Empire" on Coronation Day have now been issued, by command of the King. On the conclusion of the sermon the minister is directed to mate 'tie following quainllyword'ed proclamation to t!he people : ' 'Sirs, —I proclaim unto you EDWARD, the Son of Her Majesty the late mjost, gracious Queen Victoria, as our undoubted King. . This. Day tho King and Queen are 1 ' Anointed 'and 'Crowned in manner following :—Erst His Majesty takes the Oath pertaining to his High Office, to govern tih<B people of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and the Dominions thereto 'belonging, according to the Statutes in Parliament agreed on and to ttihe respective Laws and Customs of the same; to cause Law and Justice, in Mercy, to be executed in all His Judgments; to the utmost of His power to (maintain the Laws of God, the true Profession of the Gos-pel, and the Protestant Reformed Religion established 'by Law; and to preserve inviolably the Settlement of tine Church, of England, and tlte Doctrine, Worship, Discipline and Government thereof as by Law established in England. Then His Majesty is solemnly Anointed, as Kings, Priests, and Prophets of old were thus made and consecrated to teach and govern Hire people of Israel. He ithen is girded with the Sword of Justice; invested with the Imperial Robes; presented witih the Orb, tihe Ring, file Sceplbre of the Cross, the Sceptre of the Dove, the Ensigns of Kingly Power and Justice. Then His Majesty is Crowned in the ancient Chair of Saint Edward. And being 'Crowned he is presented with the Holy Bible, -the most valuable thing this world affords, wherein is Wisdom, wherein is 'the Royal Lajw, wherein are the lively Oracles of God. After tihe Coronation of the King the Queen also is Anointed end Crowned. And finally the King receives the Homage of tihe Peers and Bishops, who have been sumimioned for tihait purpose." *
