The Arbitration Court were engaged all day hearing a dispute in the plumbers' and gas niters' trade. The employees are willing to accept '.he award of the Conciliation Hoard, with the exception of two clauses, but the employers declined the award generally. Two firms cited were dismissed, and the case was adjourned till Thursday. The following are the Conciliation Board's recommendations in the tramway dispute : (1) Eight hours shall conetitute a day's work, "and 4S hours a week's work. _ (2) Guards and horss drivers are to be paid a minimum wage of 7a Cd per day, and road men und grooms a minimum wage of 7s per day. (3) All wages are to be paid weekly. (4) .ill time worked in excajs of eight hours on any day shall be considered overtime, and paid for at the rate of time and a quarter up to 10 hours per day, and beyond 10 hours at time and a half. (5) Ail works performed on statutory or public holidays and Sundays to be paid for au time and a half. (6) Employers shall give preference of employment to unionists. The industrial agreement embodying the above conditions is to be eatered into on or before December 9th, and to be for a term of 2 ye are from that date. In the dispute between the New Zealand Federated Boot Trade Industrial Union and Messrs Skelton, Frostick and Co. the Conciliation Board's recommendation ia as follows : —That in the opinion of the Board the present award was based upon work to be done on iron lasts. If wooden lasts be substituted an extra rate of 12J per cent shall be paid to henchmen therein until the expiration of the present award. When the present; award expires this question is then to be brought forward for reconsideration.
