A widow has died at Gostree, Ireland, aged 112, leaving a daughter over 90 years old. The Niagara Palls as we know them, or nearly so, will last at least 5000 years longer. The population of Mexico is 11,834,822. Of this number 10,185 are European immigrants. According to an exchange it has been decided to put all first-class railway stationmasters and a number of secondclass in full uniform. Stationmasters of all grades are to be supplied with a distinctive uniform cap, so that they may be easily recognised by the travelling public. At a sacred concert given in Wanganui last Sunday 400 threepenny pieces and 260 sixpenny pieces were taken at the doors.
The ladies of America prefer the study of medicine to that of theology ; there are about 275 ladies in the ministry, but 2500 are doctors.
Mr Robert Horsley, who has just died at Soham, aged 103, leaves three sons, aged respectively 74, 76, and 78. Among the "effects" of an inebriate locked in the Wellington police cells the other day was a little dog, which was ordered to leave the station as soon as his owner had been placed in durance vile. This, however, the animal steadfastly refused to do, and when he was ejected from one door he quickly effected an entrance through another. This display of faithfulness eventually aroused the sympathy of the watchhouse-keeper, who provided him with a temporary abode in a corner of the room, where, reclining on his master's coat, he kept watch during the hours of his detention.
An elderly woman was found lying on the steps at the door of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, East St. Kilda, the other night. She was apparently ill, and was lifted into the office of the church, but died almost immediately.
