(BY TELEGKAPH.) WELLINGTON. January 24. The Wellington Trotting Club's meeting was held yesterday. About L 2097 was passed through the machine. The Trotting Handicap was won by Billy Buttons (dividend L 5 Is), the Miramar Handicap by Invictus (dividend L 7 12s), and the Electric Handicap by Invictus (dividend Ll4 45.) The cost of the champion yacht Waitangi was L 750. It is understood that she and the Mascotte will meet again in a general handicap yacht race which is to be sailed next Saturday afternoon. DUNEDIN. January 24. Christopher Ward, an old resident at Waitahuna, died in the railway carriage this morning on the way to Milton. He had been ailing some time. It is presumed that his death was caused by heart disease.
