Sheep Returns.
(BY TELEGRAPH.) Wellington, December 19. The annual sheep returns have just been completed by the Stock Department, and they show an increase of 850,460 sheep within the year ended April 30th last. The following are the particulars for the six stock districts of the colony:— Auckland 1325 ; number of owners 2296, increase 118 ; sheep rate LBSB, increase LI. Napier—4,2Bß,9B6 sheep; increase 176,309 ; number of owners 2565, increase 133 ; sheep rate L 4207, increase L 177. Wellington (West Coast)-4,024,071 sheep, increase 306,357 ; number of owners 3565, increase 244; sheep rate L 4024, increase L 306. Totals for North Island —9,169,352 sheep, increase 485,991 ; number of owners 7220, increase 495 ; sheep rato L 9169, increase L 484-. Marlborou«h-Nelson increase 52,422 ; number of owners 1389, increase 07 ; sheep rate LBBB, increase L 53. Canterbury-Kaikoura- 5,744,6685heep, increase 259,697; number of owners 3671, increase 312; sheep rato L 5745, increase L 260. Otago 54,360 ; number of owners 3557, increase 194; sheep rate L 4429, increase L 54. Totals for South 151and—11,061,477 sheep, increase 366,469 ; number of owners 8617, increase 563 ; sheep rate L 11,062, increase L 367. Totals for the c010ny—20,230,829 sheep, increase 850,460 ; number of owners 15,837, increase 1058 ; sheep rato L 20,231, increase LB5l. The detailed statistics for the several counties show and increase of sheep in 49 counties, and a decrease in 23 counties. Those which show the largest increases are —Oroua (Wellington) !19,695, Waitaki 85,412, (ieraldine 76,212, Cook 04,856, North Wairarapa 53,563, Ashburton 53,115. The heaviest "decreases are — Vincent 23,825, Cheviot 15,239. Wliaka- 1 -' tane (Auckland) 11,023, Clutha 8838, Taeanalci 8791, Taieri 8277. /-
