Inquest.
An inquest was held at the house of Mr Peter Millar, Waiareka, this afternoon, on the body of Harry Bowler, who _ was found dead in the bed of the Kakanui. Dr Niven deposed to having made a post mortem examinatian of deceased. He found no external marks of violence. He was of opinion that deceased had died from drowning about eight days ago. John Millar gave evidence to having found the body. It was lying below flood mark of the Kakanui River. Parts of deceased's head and legs were covered with sand. Thotnas Graham gave evidence to having gone to find the body. He found it buried in the sand ; the hands on the stomach. There were no marks of violence. He found a pair of spectacles, a sailor's knife, and a paper with " Tim King" on on deceased. The body was partly covered with sand, and was lying with its head up the stream. Wm. M'Donald identified the body as that of a man named Harry, whom he known for 20 years. He saw him last on Wednesday, February 3rd, standing at a tent door by the Kakanui River. He was employed rabbiting, and had a mate named Hector M'Leod. He was a married man and a resident of Oamaru. The jury returned a verdict of " Found drowned."
