After considerable correspondence with the proprietors of the Wolseley, Burgon, and Ball, and the Australian compressed air shearing machines, the committee appointed to arrange a trial on a large scale in some Hawke's Bay woolshed has now abandoned the project. Mr Wolseley was anxious to compete, but no definite promises could be got from others. The Hawke's Bay County Council has pissed a resolution in favor of a harbor rate being raised by a proportionate levy on local bodies in the same way as funds for charitable aid are raised, to save trouble and expense. One contractor under the County Council threw up his contract, forfeiting his deposit, and another had to ask for an extension of time, owing to the difficulty in obtaining labor.
